Money, Elections, Identity: How the Blockchain is Changing the World

While the prices of cryptocurrencies are doing capers, //next gets to the bottom of the technology that makes these currencies possible in the first place: How efficiently does the blockchain work? What impact does it have on previous currencies? What are the advantages of using decentralised systems for databases? Why are we only at the beginning of this development process? And how great are the career opportunities in this field? For this, we link to two video interviews conducted by the German YouTube channel Finanzfluss with Prof. Philipp Sandner from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management (in German only).

In advance: Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies have come to stay. This is the conclusion of an interview we recently conducted with mathematician Markus Hablizel. For the innovation manager with a PhD from Munich Re, blockchain is "one of the most significant inventions of the current decade." The developments associated with it are "extremely exciting, as it opens up a great many new possibilities".

Since then, the price of Bitcoin has almost halved. Among other things, the discussion about the considerable power consumption of this cryptocurrency, which is far from being completely covered by renewable energy sources, is a burden. We have already examined this - and whether digitalisation in general does not also work "green" - in a separate article.

Now we turn again to the potential of the underlying technology and link to two detailed and multi-faceted video interviews with the head of the Frankfurt School Blockchain Center, Prof. Dr. Philipp Sandner. Both clips are in German only!

In Part 1 ...

... of his conversation with Thomas Kehl from Finanzfluss, we first learn basically what a blockchain is - and which research areas there are in this field at all. We also discuss the future potential of this technology as well as the digital euro and its possible impact on the financial industry and capital markets.

Expert explains how blockchain will change the world! Prof. Philipp Sandner Interview 1/2

In Part 2 ...

... of Thomas Kehl's interview, we focus on the possible use of blockchain technology in the area of databases - but also on the efficiency of blockchain in terms of the duration of transactions. In addition, we learn why we are only at the very beginning in the development process of this promising technology - and why young people in particular should flirt with a career in this field. This video, too, is in German.
