Meta launches smart sunglasses

At its 10th Connect event, Meta announced that it will launch new "smart glasses" in mid-October: The sunglasses, developed in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica (Ray Ban), have a built-in camera, microphones and social sharing functions, among other things.

The wide-angle camera built into the temples is designed to record videos that can be livestreamed directly to friends and followers on Instagram and Facebook. When filming, an LED indicator informs outsiders about the active camera. In addition, according to Meta, there are five microphones in the glasses that not only record the sound while filming, but can also be used to make phone calls. The microphones also allow access to Meta's AI chatbot via voice control.

What the glasses do not have is a screen. They are not VR or AR glasses like the Meta Quest, the new Apple glasses or the Google Glasses.
