So far, Bard has mainly been an experiment - Google released the AI chatbot in February in response to the success of Microsoft and OpenAi with ChatGPT. But Bard didn't seem quite ready for the limelight when it was presented, and it also performed worse than ChatGPT here on //next. In the meantime, however, Bard has learned a lot, comments the German online newspaper Welt.de - the programme is as powerful as the competition. Since Bard's functions have also been available in German since this week, we give you an update with the following assessment by Welt tech correspondent Benedikt Fuest.
In future, Bard will collect information for all users of Google services via "extensions", Fuest reports: for example, Gmail users can ask for a summary of all emails on a topic or from a sender. Documents users can search for specific information in their documents or search for information from other Google services such as Youtube or Maps and have it integrated via text.
In particular, this combination of information from different Google services could turn Bard into a completely new service: for example, the service is supposed to automatically generate entire travel plans, including hotel and restaurant suggestions, taking into account user preferences, simply by combining flight ticket information from Gmail with data from Maps. The Welt.de correspondent quotes Yury Pinsky, Bard product manager, as follows:
According to Welt.de, assistance via Bard will remain free of charge in services such as Google Docs - Microsoft, on the other hand, is currently charging 30 US dollars a month for its AI service Copilot in the new Office package.
